Pots, Art and all that Jazz April Gallery Walk is Last of Season
SEBRING, FL. The galleries and merchants in historic downtown Sebring will treat your senses to art and beauty on Thursday, April 24, 2008, from 5-8 p.m. This will be the last Gallery Walk until the fall. Come and experience downtown during this wonderful happening. Enjoy the exhibits, food, music and shopping. Gene Brenner Pottery and Craft Gallery located at 104 Circle Park Dr. will have as its theme “Pots or Us”. Visitors will be treated to the works of two local artists, Bette Northrup and Gene Brenner, renowned local potters. Bette, who signs her work B-Lou began working in clay while still living in Miami. After moving to Sebring many years ago with her husband, they were one of the founders of The Kissimmee Valley Archeological Society. Bette is knowledgeable concerning Ancient Native American Indian Culture. Her works are in private collections as well as Museums throughout the country. Bette’s work is being offered for sale as she is retiring from production work. Gene has been a self -trained potter with over 40 years experience and has had a studio/gallery in downtown Sebring for over 29 years. During Gallery Walk he will demonstrate wheel throwing and hand building to create collectable, functional and decorative pottery. Come visit the Gallery to see how pottery is made, how clay works, and to meet and greet the artists. Highlands Art League, 1989 Lakeview Drive will present a beautiful display of silk paintings by south Florida artist Celia Buchanan. Celia now concentrates on silk painting and mixed media because they offer vehicles for the resonant playful expression of images she has accumulated over the years. The lustrous quality of the silk is both seductive and vibrant, affording an offbeat view as through a fabric stained glass window. LK Gallery at 104 Ridgewood will participating in their final Gallery Walk this month. Stop in to say goodby to owners Linda and Jim Kegley and chat with many of their artists. A new exhibit of the Paintings of Michael Vires will be on display, and Michael will be on hand with his new book, “The Limited Palette.” He has taught art and his work has been exhibited in national, state and local competitions. He has spent the majority of the past ten years working as a commission artist. His murals, landscapes and portraits can be found in private collections all across America, including Hawaii. Enjoy a 20% discount on all art and gicleés and the remaining “Little Treasures” at 50% off. April is National Jazz Appreciation Month, and in celebration, the Hill Gustat Middle School’s Jazz Group under the direction of Jon Ferguson, will be performing some sets in Circle Park.
