Jan is a retired postal manager who began painting after retirement, she has painted in most mediums but favors oil and watercolor.  She is a popular watercolor instructor in Central Florida.

She has become known for watercolors in a Batik Style on rice paper. The process of layering paint and melted wax is tedious, but Fetters says she loves working on a piece, sometimes for weeks.  Berry Alderdice of BSD Galleries in Lake Wales, FL, says, "This centuries-old art form finds new life in the varied subject matter of the paintings shown.... it is easy to see why Jan is so respected as an artist and teacher."

Jan is mainly self-taught; however, since 1993, she has taken numerous workshops with nationally known artists such as Frank Webb, Jan Kunz, Rose Edin, Chen Khee Chee, Don Andrews and Arleta Pech.  In 2006, she studied at LaRomita Art School in Terni, Italy.
